Kidney Transplant Recipient Meets His Donor

A California prison guard receives a kidney from a fellow guard he never met before. "There are no amount of words" to express what he feels.

California Corrections officer Luis Hernandez recieved an email one day that fellow officer Gaston Benjamin was in grave danger and needed a kidney transplant. The email was sent to approximately 40,ooo California Department of Correction and Rehabilitation employees.  Hernandez was one of 20 employees that volunteered their kidney; he was the only match of those who stepped forward.

The two men underwent successful surgery on March 8 at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood.

Both men are said to be in good condition following the surgery and can hardly wait to leave the hospital and start their new lives along with their brand new friednship.
