Malibu votes on June 5

Malibu Residents supporting Betsy Butler for Assembly.

I'm sure that by now you have received a phone call or a mailer from candidates running for the 50th Assembly District. Right? I hope so. Regardless of whom you will be voting for, please listen to what your leaders have to say about Assemblywoman Betsy Butler.

Late last year, I met Malibu Mayor Laura Rosenthal and I was so impressed with her that I considered moving to Malibu. She is this statuesque women who is running the City of Malibu with lots of passion. I do have to admit that my first question to her was "How does it feel to represent Cher on City Council" she just laughed.

In November, Assemblywoman Betsy Butler announced the endorsement of Assemblywoman Julia Brownley, Malibu Mayor Laura Rosenthal, Malibu Councilman John Sibert, Former Malibu Councilwoman Sharon Barovsky and many leaders from Malibu.

"Betsy Butler is the best choice to represent Malibu in the Assembly. We have seen her work to bring groups together and find common ground on issues like traffic and public safety.  Her leadership will be a great asset to our community.”

- Malibu Mayor Laura Rosenthal

“Betsy Butler is an experienced legislator and she has spent a lot of time learning about the issues that are important to Malibu. Betsy is committed to working for our city in Sacramento and we need her kind of leadership in our new district.”

- Malibu Mayor Pro-Temp Lou La Monte

“Betsy Butler brings people together to get things done, Malibu will be well served with Betsy Butler in the Assembly.”

- Former Malibu Councilwoman Pamela Conley Ulich

While reading all of these endorsements, it was very clear to me that the leaders of the City of Malibu trust Assemblywoman Betsy Butler. There is also tons of grassroots people who are working hard to re-elect Betsy to the State Assembly and they include: President of the Malibu Democratic Club Jean Goodman and their current & former Board Members: Mona Loo, Gil Sommerfield, Len Zahn and Helen & Arthur Zoloth. All of these people cannot be wrong in assuming Betsy Butler is the clear and best choice for Malibu.

If you have been following closely, you will know that Betsy has been endorsed by the California League of Conservation Voters and the Sierra Club California. Why? I will give you one reason of the many reasons why they endorsed Betsy. She worked with her colleague Senator Fran Pavley and they got BPA banned in baby bottles and sippy cups.  And now there is momentum for a Federal prohibition on this toxic chemical. Betsy Butler finally succeeded where others had failed in getting this landmark legislation passed. We need legislators with experience in Sacramento, legislators like Betsy Butler who get things done.

When you pass by the negative campaining done against Betsy Butler, you will find a committed and effective legislator. She is a truly remarkable woman fighting for the enviroment, LGBT rights, women rights, and for YOU! I encourage you to Vote Green this June and vote for Betsy Butler.

In the picture is Skylar Peak, who has not endorsed Betsy Butler. Betsy Butler supports destruction of the Malibu lagoon; Torie Osborn does not. Who is the environmentalist here? The Malibu Democratic Club overwhelmingly, and a number of its board members, including me, endorsed Torie Osborn, not Betsy Butler. Betsy commented at the MDC's Annual Meeting in January, 2012 that development in Malibu is too slow. A tone deaf comment if I ever heard one, which shows that Betsy does not know Malibu, or the Assembly District. We are not Marina Del Rey.

Readers, If you read the article without any malice, you will know that nowhere in my post I claim that Councilmember Skylar Peak endorsed Betsy. However, this article does goes to inform you that Betsy has the most supporters in Malibu - that's all.
