Celebrity Chefs Stir Up Funds for At-Risk Children and Communities

Children’s Bureau’s 3rd Annual Celebrity Chefs & Wine Tasting held on October 11 at the agency’s Magnolia Place Family Center delighted a crowd of more than 350 food and wine enthusiasts while raising $250,000 for the agency’s child abuse prevention and treatment programs.  The evening included tapas-style food from an elite line-up of chefs --- Traci Des Jardins (Jardinière, Bravo’s Top Chef Masters), Loretta Keller (Bizou/Coco500 and The Moss Room), Mary Sue Milliken (Border Grill, Bravo’s Top Chef Masters), Jet Tila (The Charleston, Food Network’s Iron Chef America), to name a few --- wines from the finest vineyards on the West Coast and a silent auction filled with over 60 must-have items.  Julia Stewart (Chairman & CEO, DineEquity, Inc.) served as the Event Chair while ABC 7’s Tina Malave, host of Eye on L.A., was the evening’s emcee.  Bon Appétit Management Co. was the presenting sponsor.

“I’ve always had a soft spot for children and admire the work Children’s Bureau does to connect struggling families to the tools they need for a better future, one where their children can thrive. This year's Celebrity Chefs and Wine Tasting event showcased some of the best chefs in the country including my dear friends, Traci Des Jardins and Loretta Keller. It was a terrific evening that helped a great cause,” said Mary Sue Milliken.

Since 1904, Children's Bureau (www.all4kids.org) has been a nonprofit leader in the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect. More than 28,000 children and families are helped each year throughout Southern California with services that include school readiness, parenting classes, family resource centers, support groups, mental health counseling, foster care and adoption.  Children’s Bureau is the largest investor in child abuse prevention in the country and is developing a national model to transform an entire at-risk community through its Magnolia Community Initiative.
