Week In Review: Banksy Arrives, Borders Departs

The British guerilla artist's latest work leads the week's news.

It was a busy week for news led by two big stories.

British guerilla artist unveiled his latest creation this week in a Westwood alleyway. "The Crayola Shooter" sits behind Urban Outfitters off Kinross between Glendon and Westwood Blvd. and has become an immediate sensation. The artist likely created it as a publicity stunt leading up to the Academy Awards voting deadline. Check it out while you can.

Also this week, announced it will be closing its Century City location as part of the bookstore chain's bankruptcy proceedings. The shutdown follows Borders closing its Westwood location at the beginning of the year, and the closure of the independent Mystery Bookstore. Although Borders is having larger corporate issues, you have to wonder if a bookstore can't make it here, where can it? Barnes and Noble's Westside Pavilion location is now the sole full-service bookstore in the area, but will it, like Borders, one day go the way of record stores as well? Time will tell.
