Shot Fired by Man After Robbing Century City Mall Jewelry Store

No one is injured in the robbery in which a man ran off with a .75 carat diamond ring from Fast-Fix Jewelry and Watch Repairs at about noon Wednesday.

Police are searching for a man who robbed a jewelry store at the Westfield Century City mall Wednesday afternoon and then fired at least one shot after a security guard chased him.

A man walked into Fast-Fix Jewelry and Watch Repairs at 11:55 a.m. and asked to see a diamond engagement ring, said the store’s jeweler, Keivork Boghsian.

Boghsian showed him a platinum ring with a .75 carat diamond. The man asked to see it through a loupe, a jeweler’s magnifying glass. He told Boghsian he wanted to see it in the light and then took off running.

The store’s security surveillance tape shows the man coming into the store, looking at a ring, and then running out of the store.

A security guard ran after the man and chased him to Santa Monica Boulevard and then down an alley, said Allie Signaigo, who works at Fast- Fix. Once in the alley the man fired at least one shot in the air.

No one was injured in the robbery and the man was still at large as of Wednesday afternoon. He is described as a black male wearing a black shirt, white shorts and carrying a backpack, said LAPD Officer Rosario Herrera.

The man was seen getting into a late model beige Chrysler, which was driven by another man, Herrera said.

Westfield Century City Marketing Director Karla Villatoro said she could not comment on the incident. She would not say when the last time a store in the mall had been robbed, althought there are reports that another Westfield Century City mall jewelry store, Tiffany & Co., was robbed at gunpoint in January 2010.
